ChernobylX The answer is as travelling to any other country if you follow rules and stay away from restricted ‘no-go’ zones. Ukraine is back on the rails but as we all know situation on Ukrainian eastern border is quite tense. We strongly do not recommend travelling across regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, that’s for sure. Ongoing clashes between armed separatists and Ukrainian forces create quite inhospitable area over there.
However, Ukraine is the second biggest country by area in Europe. If you would want to travel from Ukraine’s western border to eastern one, get ready for a hell of a 1,700 km trip.
From Kyiv to Russian borders near Luhansk it’s almost 1,000 kilometres. Chernobyl is even further from Luhansk.
National departments of foreign affairs warn about these three areas Donetsk, Luhansk and Crimea. All other parts of Ukraine are safe as your country where you come from. Ukrainians just want to live their lives normally like in any other country in the world. There is no way you would feel unsafe at any moment. Just use your common sense. Majority of areas are calm in general but we recommend you to avoid demonstrations and public gatherings.
Our Chernobyl tour starts in Kyiv and continues to the north, towards borders with Belarus. Bear in mind these areas are far as 1,000 km from the Donetsk and Luhansk, even further from Crimea.
Things can change fast. We recommend checking of available warnings about destination you are heading to regularly. Not only regarding Ukraine.
