Private Chernobyl tours became the most popular option during the 2020 pandemic and they remain the preferred choice as they are: the most compact, the longest, with NO GO places for regular group tours, and supersafe. Visit the iconic Chernobyl places at the time when nobody is around, go deeper and cherish a moment of Soviet nostalgia. The Pripyat Ferris wheel, Pripyat hotel, Swimming pool, elementary school no. 1 or 3, Kindergarten, or any rooftop of a communistic block of flats will drag you to the Cold War era with its beauty and evil. Whether you are a “location” hunter who wants to visit most of the nearly 200 Chernobyl tour places we handpicked for you, or you are a thoughtful living being who just wants to feel the presence of the past and now, in the very few and unique spots with goosebumps when they start to “talk” to you, you are at the right address.

We love to explore just like you, let’s feed your curiosity by places in Pripyat that have rarely been visited like the morgue, secret Jupiter factory, open-air dance floor, abandoned tank ISU-152, radioactive grab, underground shooting range, gasmask storage, radioactive soil laboratory, greenhouses, houseboat, abandoned cranes, the unfinished power plant units No.5 and 6, and many more. Not enough? To really time-travel back to the Soviet Union you are welcome to drive the legendary Soviet car, the Volga seen in the Chernobyl series and, even dress up like a liquidator.

With this Chernobyl tour you can treat yourself with the unlimited possibilities of exploration, learning, photoshooting and drone flying. If there are any secret passions you are afraid to request – from fishing, to shooting a music video clip, bike riding, or simple painting, do not hesitate to ask. Also, ask us about the rules – in case you are not sure if something you love to do is illegal. ChernobylX will do whatever it takes to make your Chernobyl tour as edgy, as you wish. You will have enough time for your breathtaking pictures, finding spots which nobody else ever shot, and sure, we can still discover with you places and artefacts untouched since 1986.

Chernobyl will uncover the hidden stories only when you talk to people who were there back in the 1980s. Thus, a favourite part of the Chernobyl private tour is to meet and talk to a Chernobyl liquidator who will accompany you together with your guide when visiting Pripyat, as well as meeting the Chernobyl babushkas – the lovely people who returned after the evacuation and decided to live in the Chernobyl zone until their very last day. Some of them may become your second grandparents as it happened to all of our guides.

You decide whether you want to spend your night in Chernobyl, or if you want to sleep outside of the zone – perhaps wanting to see the “New Pripyat” – a city which was built for the evacuees from the Chernobyl Zone, many of them are still working in the Chernoyl Power Plant. We recommend you experience all the nice Ukrainian dining and hospitality on your Chernobyl tour – whether a Chernobyl babushka will cook for (or with) you, you will dine at the Power Plant canteen with the engineers sitting next to you, or a decent restaurant will tease your tongue. And yes, you are welcome to try the local wine, beer and spirits as well – at the end of the day of course 😉

With 1,2.. 5 or even more days in Chernobyl you might fall in love with this epic, derelict place. You will become an insider, a person who will write his or her Chernobyl story. Do not forget to take your friends with you – not just to split the costs, but mostly because of the unforgettable moments together that will glue your friendship for the rest of your lives. How many? ChernobylX can design a tailored Chernobyl tour to any number of travelers (the maximum so far is 150 people in one group, can you beat that?). And remember: Every 10th explorer is FREE of charge!

BONUS

Virtual Reality on your Chernobyl private tour! The super comfy VR set will show you what the Zone looks like from above or from the inside of some of the buildings that cannot be entered today. Thanks to this unique experience you can fly over the Amusement park, stand on the top of the Duga Radar, or walk through the grammar school, hospital, or even kindergarten. The shivering moments that enhance your Chernobyl private tour.

We have been on a mission to CHALLENGE YOUR WORLDVIEW since 2008.

Chernobyl Tour Safety

Visiting Chernobyl is connected to radiation – yes, you can measure hotspots from a safe distance, learn about radiation protection 101, you will have a professional dosimeter with you all the time as you are on the safest Chernobyl private tour. We will check your radiation dose with a full body scan 3 times a day.

During the Corona pandemic, we have ensured the absolute safety of you and your fellow travellers by an airline-level of disinfection and precautionary measurements: temperature check, face masks, gloves, antibacterial gel, disinfected buses and cars, Chernobyl travel guides and drivers with masks. Together we can make sure you come back home safe and thrilled. For more details please read the Corona update.

Carefully pick your Chernobyl Tour provider, as there have been scams and illegal tours lately. How to choose a Chernobyl Tour provider? Due to actual constraints, radiation safety or weather conditions in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, ChernobylX keeps the right to change the program of the itinerary, informing you about any constraints.

IS IT SAFE TO VISIT CHERNOBYL?

Safety was the number one question our founder Dominik asked himself in 2008 when coming to Chernobyl for the first time and this is our ChernobylX story. Since then our trained guides have been guiding you ONLY on health-non-hazardous places and trails. We ensure the dose of radiation received during 1 day of your Chernobyl Private Tour will not exceed 6 microsieverts (6% of daily nuclear power plant safety norms in EU), which is equivalent to around 6 hours on an intercontinental flight. More on safety of Chernobyl tours.

Meet and greet in Kyiv

“Welcome on the tour to Chernobyl! Let's make it the trip of your lifetime. It is 7.30 and we are departing, make sure you have your passports all the time with you. Here are newspapers from 1986 and in a while we will watch a documentary about Chernobyl.”

Nataly, Chernobyl “Lady Adventure” guide

Checkpoint Dytiatky - entering Chernobyl exclusion zone

“We are among the first here, we will skip the line anyway. Let's check in, grab our dosimeters, do radiation safety training and maybe have a cup of coffee or visit the restrooms.”

Halina, Chernobyl “Horror Lover” guide

Meeting Chernobyl babushkas

“Visits from tourists from all over the world are the most exciting part of my day. I live alone with my dog, but after people visit me I feel a bit younger and happier.”

Valentina Borisovna, Chernobyl babushka, liquidator

Swimming Pool Lazurny

“The biggest swimming pool Lazurniy (Azure) was a pride of our city! We use to come here right opened shortly before the accident in 1986, so I had the pride to go swimming there after its reopening for Chernobyl zone workers in 1988. Together with the sauna it was the best relax after whole day patrolling.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Pripyat kindergarten

“In Soviet kindergartens, everything was made to make this place a favorite one for children, with the nicest toys and the best playgrounds! My daughter loved this kindergarten, except the midday nap between 1 and 2 PM.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Abandoned tank ISU-152

“The only one of the four ISU tanks that was coming to the zone after the accident has been left here. As silly as it sounds, we were told that they were brought here to shoot a hole into the reactor wall in order to get cooling compounds to bring the temperature down after the meltdown.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Panorama view of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant

“This is the place which we usually picked for fishing - it has a great view of the Chernobyl Power Plant and in the cooling channel there were a lot of fish. From right to left you see all 4 units as they were built, from number 1 to the fateful one - number 4.”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

New Safe Confinement of Reactor 4 (New Sarcophagus)

“After exactly 30 years, we ensured the safety of Europe by putting this New Safe Confinement over the old sarcophagus. To build the old one in Soviet times took 7 months. The new one was done in 9 years. But it should last another 100.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Chernobyl Power Plant excursion - operational bunker

“The bunker was not just a bomb shelter in case of a nuclear attack, but it was also a command center in case of an emergency or accident. That fateful night the operators and management moved here and shut down all other reactors after the accident at the #4 reactor.”

Stanislav Shekstelo, former guide of CHNPP

Chernobyl Power Plant excursion - golden corridor

“The golden corridor was not golden. After the accident, we needed to put the radiation levels down as this was the only corridor connecting all 4 reactors. And the metal shielding somehow turned out to look like it was made of gold.”

Stanislav Shekstelo, former guide of CHNPP

Chernobyl Power Plant Excursion - The Visitor’s Center

“The best view of the new safe confinement, the new sarcophagus, at the same time the only detailed model of the old sarcophagus with everything that is left inside. Get your questions ready!

Stanislav Shekstelo, former guide of the CHNPP

Chernobyl Power Plant Excursion - The Control Room No.4

“This was the most recent place that has been opened to tourists, as the radiation levels are still higher than in the rest of the units. Completely empty, but still telling the moments of the fateful night in the most vivid and unspoken way.”

Stanislav Shekstelo, former guide of CHNPP

Caffe Pripyat and Riverport

“Café “Pripyat” was one of the most popular places in our city. The interieur impresses people even nowadays as it is decorated with stained glass. A true masterpiece. But to be honest, we mostly came here because of the best lemonade in town, far ahead of the capitalist Coke!”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Pripyat Hospital no. 126

“I came down to the hospital the next morning after the explosion of reactor no. 4 for a check of my burned cheek, but I felt fine so I was released and called back on duty. If I new it was the last time I saw the hospital working, I would definitely say farewell to the doctor.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Townhall of Pripyat

“In this very building on the second floor I had my office, however the most memorable moment dod not happen there. It happened on the 3rd floor in the Assembly hall at 11 PM on 26th of April when we decided to evacuate the city on the next day.”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Palace of culture Energetik

“Energetik was the heart of our town. During the day we went to drama performances, music classes or the library. In the saturday night rather for disco. The whole front was lit in blue and red. It was something like our little strip of Las Vegas.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Music school of Pripyat

“While we were working hard to build socialism, my children were taking music classes at the Art school. They played two musical instruments, sang in a choir. I felt so proud at the end of each semester when they made a concert for us, parents, leaving us in tears.”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

The White House

“The White house, how we – regular people - used to call it was the apartment building where the Administration of the city and Power plant lived including former director Victor Bruchanov. I remember sitting at the central square and re-reading two giant soviet slogans “Glory to party” and “Glory to Lenin” over and over.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Elementary school no. 3

“The largest elementary school in Pripyat with over 1400 pupils. Specialised in foreign languages - German, and also the imperialistic English.”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Abandoned "Avanhard" football stadium

“Our city football club Stroitelj Pripyat was created mostly by players from the nearby village Chistogalovka. We were proud fans, as it became the regional champion of the Kyiv region — not once, but 3 times in a row: 1981 to 1983.”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Supermarket in Chernobyl Zone

“Our city opened one of the first supermarkets in Soviet Union at the central square, my wife loved to shop there, while I was looking at the nice furniture on the second floor. She always bought us some ice cream that we cherished on our way back home.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Hotel polissya in Pripyat town

“Small restaurant, outdoor terrace and panoramic views on the top floor, it was the place where we could gather to celebrate important events or have a corporate party for just 5 rubles, which was no more than 5 dollars! I remember one night we got drunk with a Czechoslovak delegation that was staying at the hotel”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept. 1

Air defence missile system S-75 " Volkhov"

“In the forests between the Chernobyl power plant and the Duga radar there is a small military base that is providing air defense for the Duga over-the-horizon radar and directly to the Chernobyl Nuclear power plant, however I was only allowed to go there after the soldiers had left in May 1986 and I was quite surprised how developed this unit was…”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Pioneer camp Skazochnij

“This is the place where my deja vu happened. I took my neighbour from Slovakia who claimed to be here helping during the Chernobyl accident. As he was walking around, he started to recall details - a barking guard dog, a campfire, a pioneer oath… Memories were coming out and the whole group just time traveled back to 1986.”

Dominik Orfanus, Chernobyl guide

Children’s summer camp “Emerald” (destroyed by fire in Chernobyl)

“Not only people from all over the Kyiv region, but also local factory workers from Pripyat were coming here with their families to spend one or two weeks during the summer. In 1985, I enjoyed my holiday in this pine forest with a lake, playgrounds and even an open air cinema… My (now adult) daughter was crying when I told her that the Summer camp was burned down in 2020.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Rossokha vehicle graveyard

“The first two weeks after the accident, thousands of military and rescue vehicles arrived at Chernobyl. I was working at a petrol station which was the only operational one in the zone. All the vehicles that entered the zone and where contaminated couldn't leave, so a cemetery was created for them before almost all of them were dismantled.”

Valentina Borisovna, Chernobyl babushka, liquidator

Bridge of death

“The bridge crossing over the train tracks leading to Pripyat never had this name. Only after 2 thieves on a motorbike who were just leaving Pripyat city somewhere in early 90s faced a police patrol going in their direction, the driver turned to the side and they both died off the side of it.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Boulevard of Lenin

“The main street of Pripyat bearing the name of Lenin never actually had its statue erected. We already had the approval from Moscow to put the Lenin statue in the city centre but the Chernobyl accident crashed our plans..”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Astonishing rooftop views

“You can hardly have a sense of the size and logic of how Pripyat was built. And we were only halfway done. The city should have been expanded more to the north and east adding at least another 50,000 people to it..”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Post office

“Back in the 80s only few of us had phones at home, even in privileged Pripyat. To call somebody you had to use street phone booths or the ones here at the post office. When I went calling or sending a package, my daughter could not stop staring at the Yurij Gagarin painting inside”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Unfinished reactors number 5 and 6 of Chernobyl Power Plant

“At the time of the accident, units five and six were 80% completed. After the accident our government thought that they would finish them, however at that time there was no future for the Chernobyl power plant due to the symbol it had created around the world.”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Cooling towers of reactors 5 and 6 of Chernobyl Power Plant

“Two huge cooling towers for reactor 4 and 5 of the Chernobyl Power Plant were under construction when the accident happened. When I came down to the site for the first time, I loved the incredible echo inside”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Cooling pond of Chernobyl Power Plant

“I would say the first evacuated villages of Chernobyl are under the water off the calling plant. The inhabitants were moved to other villages around and their former houses or gardens were flooded by this giant water reservoir that cooled down the first four reactors.”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Fish laboratory

“Scientists came here to study the fish from the contaminated waters of the nearby cooling pond somewhere around 1987 and they stayed here until 1991. Besides mutations they were checking what would happen if contaminated fish were eaten by ferrets.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Amusement park

“My daughter was looking forward to the opening of this grand amusement park on May 1st, 1986 because of the ferris wheel usually only privileged to large cities around the USSR. This did not happen, however we were able to take a test ride in March 1986 and had a great view on the city"

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Pripyat "Ferris wheel"

“My daughters were begging me to get tickets for the ferris wheel opening during the May Day celebrations. They even told me that some of their dear friends had already taken a test ride. Because of the accident nobody ever rode on the ferris wheel.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Pripyat sports center

“A large gym, swimming pool, sauna, and even a karate room were all keeping our teenagers busy. I was also coming here to play football after work sometimes.”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Police Station of Pripyat

“The place where I used to work in the past. Our police station opened just 18 months before the Chernobyl accident. After the explosion on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant we still were doing our job, we were basically the only people left after the evacuation, protecting the city as before. Me and my comrades left this Police station only in 2002.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Pripyat Firestation

“Boys from Pripyat Fire department went to extinguish the fire at the Chernobyl Power Plant among the first with their 4 firetrucks. I remember, I went to get their captain to the site as he was celebrating his birthday.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Jupiter factory

“This factory since 1980 producing electronic devices, mainly for tape recorders, was a mystery to me. It had an electric fence around, the jobs were secret and well paid. Just after the accident we find out they also had a secret military program.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Morgue and cemetery of Pripyat

“The morgue was right behind the Pripyat hospital, but it was not busy, as Pripyat was a young city with an average age of only 25.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Child clinic

“Socialism took good care of children, in Pripyat the best rehabilitation specialists from the Soviet union were invited to help disabled children. The clinic had a great reputation and my wife also went there for regular checks before she gave birth to our son.”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Greenhouses of Pripyat

,,Greenhouses in Pripyat were something mystical that soon became the pride of the city as they delivered fresh vegetables like tomatoes or cucumber in the winter to all of us living in Pripyat. The power plant supplied the greenhouse complex with heat and it was managed using just one computer.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Wrecked Houseboat - The Landing Stage

“Before embarking on any of the ships- either to Gomel or Kiev, you could have bought tickets here, have a drink or simply wait for your ship to come. Now, it is half sunk on the other side of Pripyat Bay”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

16 story building Fujiyama

“This Japanese sounding name stuck after the evacuation when there were the only personnel of the zone and this was the building and rooftop where some of them gathered after work for a beer and to play a guitar, and somehow it got nicknamed, Mount Fuji in Japan. Probably because it is the tallest of all the buildings.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Yubileinij Department Store

“Wanna get a haircut? Just 40 kopeikas and your hair is lit! The most expensive haircut was 1 ruble and 60 kopeikas. In this largest department store in Pripyat everything looked like a great deal.”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Abandoned elementary school with gas masks

“I lived next to this elementary school and in the morning I always stumbled on children going there, now it is a ruin, one of the first as the first roof collapsed in 2005.”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Pripyat truck garages

“A big parking lot and service garages were where we, the residents of Pripyat, could have the oil changed in our Ladas. Now we can find a scrapyard and trucks and tanks used during the liquidation works after the Chernobyl accident.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Yanov train station

“The train station was our gateway to the whole Soviet Union, there were even trains directly to Moscow.”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

The Red forest

“Nice pine forest, Great for a picnic and camping, with only one building – the county traffic police registration office where all the plates for your Lada were issued. All the trees turned red just a few days after the explosion.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Highly Radioactive Grab

“This is a part of the crane that cleaned up a large amount of graphite debris, which was thrown out from the core of the 4th unit during the liquidation work of the Chernobyl power plant site. This is still one of the most radioactive parts you can find on your tour…”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Piano and TV shop

“This electronic appliance shop is where we bought our first TV set. Black-and-white, but we loved it.”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Duga radar system in Chernobyl "The russian woodpecker"

,,We saw this monstrous radar from our home in Pripyat, we were told it is some kind of antenna. Soviet over-the-horizon Duga Radar in Chernobyl was the third of its kind in the USSR but it was basically commissioned due to numerous flaws.”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Firestation of Chernobyl - 2 and Duga

“It’s no coincidence that the firefighters placed their station between the town and the military base. Easy to get to any part of Chernobyl-2 in just a few minutes in case there’s a fire.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Chernobyl Tree friendship of nations monument

“This is the very first statue in Pripyat and it is decorated with the coat of arms of all 13 Soviet Republics. It bears the same name as the street which was the first built in our city and it was the first thing I had seen when I arrived in the city by bus in the night, as the bus station is just a few steps away. “

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Pripyat city sign

“The entrance to the city dating its foundation back to 1970 which is the same year as the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was started to be built. Tourists nowadays take pictures here, just like we did on our wedding day.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Kopachi village kindergarten + hotspot

“Kopachi was the closest village to Chernobyl Power Plant and it was heavily contaminated by the radioactive fallout. The wooden houses were all buried under the ground within the next two weeks after the accident, so people could never return.”

Volodimyr Verbickij, former inhabitant of Pripyat

Farm yard near Kopachi in Chernobyl Exclusion zone

“My friend who worked in the Kopachi farm told me in 1985 that they will get new harvesters. They did...and never used them. They are still parked new and unused at this cooperative farm ”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Alley of memory and hope

“The Chernobyl memorial park has162 tablets with the names of permanently evacuated towns and villages. And a postbox for all of the forgotten addresses.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Lenin statue

“Statues of Lenin were everywhere across the Soviet Union and our beloved city Chernobyl wasn’t an exception. Each kid was calling him “Grandpa Lenin”, even my daughter. Today, this is the last statue of Lenin in Ukraine.”

Alexey Moskalenko, former chief of Pripyat Police dept.

Church of St. Elias

“The cleanest place in the whole of Chernobyl after the accident happened. My mom along with their neighbours, told the builders of the power plant back in 1970 that it was being built on the bones of fallen soldiers from the Great Patriotic War, and it will not have a good fate….they did not listen ....”

Valentina Borisovna, Chernobyl babushka, liquidator

Chernobyl River Port

“The river port in Chernobyl was always an important transport point with access to the Black Sea. The docks even repaired ships from Kyiv back in the day. For me Pripyat river was always a place to relax, I used to go fishing there almost every day. And my husband loved the fresh fish.”

Valentina Borisovna, Chernobyl babushka, liquidator

Those who saved the world Monument

“To those who saved the world... The families and friends of the firefighters and Chernobyl Power Plant staff survivors built this monument on their own using real equipment and concrete. Each year on the 26th of April they gather here to commemorate the ones who they lost.”

Alexander Esaulov, former deputy mayor of Pripyat

Radiation control after Chernobyl tour

“The last dosimetric control of today, checking if our clothes did not get contaminated and we are safe to get back to Kyiv. No hurry, take pictures if you want.”

CHERNOBYL PRIVATE TOUR

Frequently Asked Questions

The Chernobyl private tour is (almost) a limitless exploration of the most fascinating place on planet Earth. Touring Chernobyl on your own allows you not only to be faster and more flexible than being on a group tour with other people, but it gives you a tremendous variety of structure to your Chernobyl tour based on your preferences, adding places that might seem out of reach or when discovering completely new views of the famous spots you already know. You have a chance to be alone in Pripyat and sneak into the non-tourist parts, as well as enjoy the most famous places (like the Ferris wheel, Swimming pool or Central square) completely empty. On top of that, choosing the several day Chernobyl private tour includes the experience of spending a night in the magical and unforgettable Chernobyl (or New Pripyat – Slavutych). The private Chernobyl tour is the favourite option of ChernobylX tours ever since the pandemic year of 2020. Only on the private tour, can you visit the Chernobyl power plant’s control room #4, fly a drone, drive your own car or ride in a Tesla. And by the way, you can visit Chernobyl for free – just grab 9 of your friends and you can have the whole Chernobyl tour completely free – only on private tours.

You don’t need to worry, we have got your back. Everything is arranged for you (permits, transportation, Geiger Muller counter, dining, hotel, maximum safety, radiation safety controls, top pro-English speaking guides, etc). Grab your passport, your camera, some comfy shoes, a good mood, and let’s make some great memories!

Private tour with ChernobylX and 6 friends was the best decision we made. We had our own guide, who kept us away from crowded places, a private bus and we could choose the sites we wanted to see. And it is not much more expensive than a tour with larger groups.

The private tour is THE only way to do this. Being on your own adds to experience and allows you to see what is important and of interest to you. I got to see the things that were important and I wanted to see. Even the things I didn't know I wanted to see!

A terrific mix of places that gave a good understanding of the accident and its consequences. A knowledgeable and interesting guide also made the trip a success. A multi-day private tour while more expensive means you can visit the sites at times chosen ideally to avoid the more rigidly planned day-tour visitor timetables.
