The hype around Chernobyl is going mad these days. August and September – these two hot summer months attracts hundreds of visitors every day. At first glance, summer may be the best choice to visit Chernobyl. But is it really so?

We all would agree that summer is the most popular time when all of us travel, right? Free days, less work and nice weather attracts us to plan trips around the world. But if you are a true adventurer who is not a fan of crowded tourist attractions, summer will not be the best time to visit a place like Chernobyl. To be honest, actually summer is not best time to visit any place, as in the summer hundreds of thousands of tourists roam the world. And Chernobyl is not a big exception.

So if you want to enjoy the true atmosphere of a deserted post-apocalyptic world, wander the empty streets of the overgrown city of Pripyat or visit the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, listen well. Our first secret tip is to plan your trip during the autumn, winter or early spring.

During this period, tourists are looking for other destinations and adventurous activities, such as visiting the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, remain empty for all fans who want to enjoy it only for themselves. However, Chernobyl is also slowly becoming a popular destination that hosts thousands of visitors all year round. Therefore, we offer another (the second) secret tip – do not plan your visit for the weekend.

Weekend visits are a popular choice not only for classic tourists, but also for many adventurers, influencers and backpackers, who usually arrive in Kyiv on Thursday and leave on Sunday. Our secret tip is that you should come to discover Chernobyl on weekdays, ideally on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. During these days, you can also book a trip to the Chernobyl power plant, where you will have a perfect chance to take superb photos and enjoy the tour with even smaller group.
